Given all this talk in the various IBM internal blogs regarding this Second Life phenomena, I decided to go ahead and give it a try – or at least try…
So I went over to the Second Life web site and registered for an account. That was easy enough and I did get one. I then proceeded to download the software. I did check the requirements and my home PC did not meet them, but I thought I’d give it a try. Well, no surprise, it didn’t work. Not even slowly.
So I tried the install on my work T42p. The installation process did not complain this time and I was able to start the software – only for it to be slower than swimming through molasse in winter. The bottom line is that I now have a Second Life, but no way of living it.
Actually, my first life sometimes feels like that too…
I guess I have to get a new graphics card. Now to convince “She Who Must Be Obeyed” of the necessity…

Hhmm… A MacBook would be a good idea, but considering the price difference with a new video card (a bit over C$2000), it may be a difficult sell to SWMBO!
At one point, I wrote about my first attempts to get on second life using an apple G3. No good.
Works fine on the new macBook though! π
